Enterprise data storage solutions need to be simple yet secure for ever-swelling data volumes. Leveraging the available infrastructures and architectures, several data storage have emerged varying in their processing capacities, upscale and downscale extents, encryption and access control mechanisms, and connectivity scopes. Some of the popular storage solutions are:
- Direct Attached Storage (DAS): Hardware dominated storage infrastructure that is directly attached to the physical server. SCSI Disks, SATA interfaces, and array controllers are included in this domain. DAS is usually employed by storage needs with a limited and definite amount of data.
- Storage Area Network (SAN): Centralized storage accessible through a network. Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) and Fibre Channels are popular options in this category. SAN storage solutions are more reliable in terms of storage capacity, performance, and disaster recovery.
- Network Attached Storage (NAS): Dedicated network appliance meant for data storage management. NAS uses protocols like NFS and SMB can theoretically connect to unlimited devices. NAS is slightly less popular than the other options in this list;however, its gaining traction thanks to its optimal cost and performance.
- Cloud Storage: Storage services managed by cloud infrastructures. Cloud storage solutions are easily the most popular in the modern technology landscape. They are scalable, secure, cost-efficient, and substantially faster.
